Description

Sergio Larrain published only four books during his lifetime, and a complete monograph of his work has never previously been put together. This book fills that space with a selection of more than 200 photographs from throughout his career, alongside a selection of letters, drawings and handwritten texts that reflect Larrain’s compassionate vision of the world.Winner of the 2014 Kraszna-Krausz Photography Book Awards See the Krazna-Krausz awards site for more details of the award.

The street children of Santiago became the subject of his first substantial project, and in the 1960s he joined Magnum Photos at the behest of his friend Henri Cartier-Bresson. Roaming from the bustling cityscapes of London and Paris to the tranquil landscapes of Machu Picchu, he left behind a brilliant body of work but spent much of his life in seclusion, practising meditation and yoga, writing and drawing.
