About the Authors

Necmi Sönmez received education on art history at Mainz, Paris, Newcastle, and Frankfurt universities and had his PhD at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University on Wolfgang Laib (2000). He has independently carried out several international cooperation based curatorial projects, residency programs at international level and has worked as an adjunct tutor/curator at different museums among them Borusan Contemporary, Tate, Staatliche Museen Berlin, Kiasma, Deutsche Bank KunstHalle, Stiftung Zollverein, Essen, Kunsthaus Göttingen.
Alistair Hicks is s writer and curator. He is the author of The Global Art Compass: New Directions in 21st century art, Urban Mirrors: reflections from the artists of Istanbul, The School of London, and New British Art at the Saatchi Gallery. He has recently curated two exhibitions of Paula Rego, one at Kesntergesellscaft Hannover and the other at the Pera Museum In Istanbul. Marcel Dzama: Dancing with Moon is currently being shown at the Pera. For twenty years he was the Senior Curator at Deutsche Bank.
Olivia Sand has been writing for the Asian Art Newspaper since the publication's launch in 1997. She has been among the first journalists to specialize in contemporary art from Asia and subsequently in contemporary art from the Islamic world.
