Love is widely celebrated in Indian poetry, whether mystic love for the divine or the passionate and affectionate feelings between lovers, husbands, wives, parents and children, family and friends. This attractive collection combines a selection of translations from various languages of the best of Indian poetry with illustrations drawn from some of the finest examples of Indian art in the British Museum.
Anna L. Dallapiccola is Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh. Selected publications include South Indian Paintings: A Catalogue of the British Museum Collection (The British Museum Press, 2010); Kalamkari Temple Hangings (Mapin in association with the Victoria and Albert Museum, 2015); Reverse Glass Paintings in India (Niyogi Books, 2017); Thanjavur's Gilded Gods, co-authored with K. Singh and R.G. Singh (Marg, 2018). She is currently preparing a catalogue of the Thanjavur and Mysuru paintings in the collection of the CSMVS, Mumbai.
