Edited by Daniel Buchholz in collaboration with Christopher Müller, Michael Sanchez, and Katharina Forero de Mund, the catalogue provides detailed descriptions, photographic documentation, exhibition histories, and bibliographic references for Genzken's works across all media from 1961 to 1996. Encompassing more than 1,200 individual entries, the volume serves as the definitive scholarly resource on the artist's early production, including the Ellipsoids and Hyperbolos, plaster sculptures, concrete sculptures and Basic Research paintings, epoxy resin sculptures and More Light Research paintings, as well as early collage works.

About the Authors
Isa Genzken, *1948 in Bad Oldesloe. One of the most important and influential German artists of our time. In the mid-1970s, as a student at Düsseldorf's renowned Kunstakademie, she created geometric wood sculptures, which gained her early international acclaim (she exhibited these works at Documenta 7 and the Venice Biennale in 1982). Since then, she has made sculptures in plaster, concrete and epoxy resin. Ranging in size from maquettes to monumental, these abstract works are influenced by Minimalism, but are decidedly narrative. Paintings that examine ideas of surface and light, as well as photographs, collages, artist's books and films, followed in the 1990s. From the late 90s on, Genzken began to create increasingly complex sculptural installations. Major retrospectives include: Documenta 1982, 1992 and 2002; Venice Biennale 2007; Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2013; Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, 2021; Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, 2024. Daniel Buchholz is a German art dealer, the founder of Galerie Buchholz in Berlin and Cologne.
