Mosaic presents a compendium of images, including landscapes and portraits, all drawn from the author's extensive photographic archive, in celebration of a lifetime's engagement with the people and places of our diverse planet.
Mosaic, the sixth and final volume in Sean Palfrey's photography series, is filled with some of the author's favourite images: an Indonesian fishing boat at rest on a sandy beach in the glow of dusk; a tangle of leaves that look, for a second, like the bared teeth of a fearsome beast; a bright and joyful children's mural, replete with birds and rainbows; and the grey-blue and apricot tints of a canyon wall, scoured by time and weather.
This book is a mosaic, with images of animals, trees and plants, landscapes both stark and beautiful, and portraits, too, all of them gathered over a lifetime of travel and a close engagement with the people and places of our diverse planet.
Sean Palfrey has had an illustrious career as a paediatrician, Faculty Dean at Harvard University and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Public Health at Boston University. Simultaneously, Palfrey has spent a lifetime exploring the boundaries of image-making through photography, with his work as a doctor informing his practice. In addition to being a teacher, Dean and clinician, he served as president of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and he has been a legislative advocate for child health programmes and policies since the 1970s. Palfrey exhibits his photography in solo and group shows frequently in the USA.
