About the Author
Sara Cedar Miller is a photographer, historian, and the Central Park Conservancy's historian emerita. She joined the Conservancy in 1984 as its official photographer and went on to spend four decades documenting, researching, and interpreting Central Park's design, restoration, and history.
Over the course of her career, Miller photographed virtually every corner of the park, helping to communicate its transformation and significance to a broad audience. She later expanded her role to include historical research, becoming a leading authority on Central Park's landscape, architecture, and cultural history.
Miller is the author of several acclaimed books on Central Park, including Seeing Central Park and Before Central Park, combining rigorous scholarship with visual storytelling. Her work reflects decades of original research and a deep engagement with the park's past, from its nineteenth-century creation to its modern restoration.
A frequent lecturer and guide, she has led tours and spoken widely on the history of Central Park, bringing its design and hidden stories to life for visitors and readers alike.
