The first time I saw Lucas Utrera's images on Instagram, I immediately followed him (and I don't actively follow many people). His flies are unique and different, and when he ties his patterns, every single hackle fiber seems to be in place. His book, featuring his own photographs (among the best fly images I have ever seen), is a delight to the eye with lots of bright colors and superbly crafted patterns. I imagine even a non-tier would be interested in this book-and for serious fly tiers, these patterns are examples of perfection for emulation.
About the Author
Lucas Utrera was born in Córdoba, Argentina, but currently lives in Miami, Florida. He's an industrial designer, art director, and professional fly tyer with almost 30 years of experience. Featured in major international publications and nominated as World's Best Fly Tyer in 2022, he shares his unique flies through his social media account @UtreraFlyTying to inspire other fly tyers to go further, break some rules, and be carried away by creative instinct.
