Stunning photographic explorations of magnificent ocean life around the globe.
In dynamic coastal habitats where oceans meet land, more than 90 per cent of marine life occurs and most of the terrestrial life that thrives along the shore is also surrounded by the ocean. It is an intricate and complex web of magnificent natural life. This is an epic study of some of our planet's most untouched marine habitats: the wild coast of South Africa on the Indian ocean; the Seychelles; Australia's Ningaloo Coast; the icy waters of Alaska and British Columbia; the coastal rainforests of Central America; the Galapagos Islands; the deep water reefs and rich ecosystems of the South Pacific's Coral Triangle; the polar bear realms of the Arctic and the penguin and seal colonies and whales of Antarctica.
Each location provides extensive geological and historical information. This is an adventure of the wildest kind.
Peter and Beverly Pickford are professional wildlife photographers, committed conservationists, and inveterate travellers and explorers. Both born and educated in Africa, their work has carried them across all of Earth's continents to produce eleven books, among them the bestselling Forever Africa: A Journey from the Cape of Good Hope to Morocco and award-winning Wild Land: A Journey into the Earth's Last Wilds. When not on assignment, they live in a nature reserve they have established on the west coast of South Africa, surfing, hiking and kayaking in the company of the thousands of seabirds and seals they have helped to protect. Images from Wild Ocean will be donated to support and assist individuals and NGOs working to create and expand marine-protected areas around the world.
